South of the Frontino gate there is a wall, erected after a decree in 375 by Emperor Theodosius, with a gate, the Northern Byzantine gate. Here we see the southern one. More to the south and thus outside the Byzantine walls, are the remains of a counterpart to the Frontino gate, unlike that one not yet excavated let alone restored.
